Windows 7 End of Life is Near – What This Means for You

Time to add something to next year’s resolutions list! Windows 7 support is coming to an end and Microsoft has already started sending out alerts to users. On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer be offering technical support or free security updates for the Windows 7 platform.

If you currently have Windows 7, it is highly recommended to upgrade to Windows 10. Users should have started seeing notifications in April about the upcoming change. The notification includes a link that provide users with information on how to start backing up files.

What else does this end mean?

We already covered that there will be zero technical support, along with no free security updates. This also means no more software updates. This means your Windows 7 computer will be left vulnerable to viruses and malware.

What can you do?

Talk to your IT professional. The best way to experience Windows 10 is by purchasing a new computer and your IT professional can help you choose the right one. Prior to purchasing a new computer, you will need to back up all of your files. Carbonite is an excellent option for completing this task. You can learn more about Carbonite here. Although there are several methods for backing up your files, carbonite is a centralized way to backup all of your data.

If you have Windows 7, the time to start acting is now. Do your research and talk to your IT professional about your options.
